It depends on how you use it. Bodyweight, the size of your board and foil, and the type of riding you're after. Our batteries come in three sizes; 2P, 3P and 4P. Powered cruising at 65% throttle, using an 800sqcm front wing and a 42 litre board, as an 85kg (170lb) rider will be able to run non-stop for 35 minutes on the 2P, 60 minutes on the 3P, and 90 minutes on the 4P. But we've also seen riders use a 2P to chip into big waves they couldn't otherwise catch, and come in four hours later with over 50% battery remaining, and a huge smile. A Ferrari looks small compared to a tractor. Believe us, we've put this motor through its paces. It delivers 29.8kg of thrust, easily enough to get up on plane and onto foil.

"Static Bollard Pull" (SBP) is a measure of how much thrust a motor produces when pulling against something fixed and immovable, like a bollard or pole. We've measured RIIFT's SBP at 29.8kg.

But think about a poorly designed boat hull — it needs more thrust to overcome drag, so you end up bolting on more engines to compensate for an inefficient design. Compare that to a streamlined hull, which will move faster with a smaller motor. SBP is an important metric for a tugboat, but at speed it becomes far less relevant. At the end of the day, SBP is just one number — hull and board design matter just as much.

The 2P, 3P and 4P batteries all deliver the same 30 kg of thrust — the difference is capacity, weight and ride time.

The 2P is the lightest option at 3.5 kg.

The 3P adds 50% more capacity and 1.3 kg for a great balance of weight and endurance

The 4P doubles the 2P’s capacity and adds 2.6 kg, giving you maximum ride time for longer sessions and heavier riders.

Yes! All three battery sizes integrate with the RIIFT Tracks in your RIIFT-enabled board.

Small tracks do exist, but they’re very bespoke and more of an invite-only from the shapers, and these tracks will only fit the 2P Battery. For clarity, we’re launching RIIFT with the Large tracks that will fit all three batteries.

Safety is hugely important to us, and is built into every part of the RIIFT Power System. From an optional tilt sensor in our remote that can cut power if you fall, to a fully encapsulated, fireproof, explosion-proof and waterproof battery, RIIFT has been rigorously engineered and tested. Every battery we make undergoes IP68 testing at 10m for 30 minutes, while the waterproof connection uses multiple layers of protection and an electronic safety cut-off.

In the meantime, it is critical to remove the rotor from the stator after every session, and rinse everything with fresh water. The RIIFT PowerPack will contain dielectric grease, which should be applied to the yellow battery terminals every session. It is also crucial not to store your gear wet.

Nothing will limit your gear's life more than storing it wet and salty.

We'll say it again. Don't store your gear salty and wet. Rinse everything thoroughly with fresh water, and allow it to dry after every use.

Yes. If you are storing your battery for extended periods, it is necessary to store it between 50% and 80% charge, and to charge it once per month.

Not at present, but a travel-compliant edition is under development. Watch this space.
